ROUNDUP : Burns 2nd, CSUN 5th in Golf Invitational

Led by Bob Burns’ 54-hole total of 218, the Cal State Northridge men’s golf team finished fifth Tuesday in the 20-team Wolfpack golf invitational at Lake Tahoe.

Burns, the defending NCAA Division II individual champion, fired rounds of 78, 69 and 71 in the two-day meet at the par-72 Edgewood Golf Course to tie for second individually. Players shot 27 holes a day.

Northridge finished at 986, 14 strokes behind first-place Nevada Reno, the host school. Fred Widicus of Virginia won medalist honors at 214.

Charlie Wi, a freshman from Westlake High, tied for fourth at 219 for Nevada Reno.

MEN’S SOCCER

Moorpark 3, Bakersfield 1--Moorpark (8-0, 3-0 in conference play) scored all of its goals in the first five minutes to defeat the Renegades (9-1, 2-1) in a Western State Conference match at Moorpark.

Billy Kranz, Eric Gunter and Robert Harris each scored a goal after getting an assist from Shaun Christensen.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Pierce d. Bakersfield 15-9, 15-0, 16-14--Nathalie Zodan had seven blocks and six kills and teammate Lori Mertes added seven kills to help the Brahmas (7-0, 6-0) defeat Bakersfield (3-3) in a Western State Conference match at Pierce.

Moorpark d. West Los Angeles, 15-7, 15-8, 16-14--Nikki Ferreria had 12 kills and Kellee Roe added seven to lead the Raiders (3-3, 3-3) to a WSC victory at West L.A. (0-6, 0-6).

The Master’s d. Mt. St. Mary’s, 15-2, 15-1, 15-6--Carla Vande Steeg had 15 kills for host Master’s in a NAIA District 3 match. Stacey Parch had seven aces for Master’s (11-11, 3-4).

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Thousand Oaks d. Simi Valley, 15-0, 15-7, 15-4--Erikka Gulbranson had eight kills and teammate Amee Stone added seven to lead the Lancers (8-1, 5-0) past Simi Valley (0-4 in league play) in a Marmonte League match at Thousand Oaks.

Westlake d. Camarillo, 16-14, 10-15, 15-6, 16-14--Wendy Rockwell had 15 service points and Jen Wells and Kari Logan had nine kills apiece to lead Westlake (4-3, 3-2) to a Marmonte League win over visiting Camarillo.

Newbury Park d. Agoura, 3-15, 7-15, 15-5, 15-5, 15-0--Jenny Cameron had 14 kills and teammates Lori Muzzonigro and Diane Haley added eight each to lead a Newbury Park rally in a Marmonte League match at Agoura.

Erin Mutch had 33 assists for Newbury Park (5-1, 4-1).

Royal d. Channel Islands, 15-5, 15-5, 15-2--Wende Brown had 12 kills and Becky Campbell added five for host Royal (6-1, 4-1) in a Marmonte League match.

Notre Dame d. Chaminade, 15-6, 15-9, 15-9--Mary Strong had 11 kills and Maria Thorpe nine to lead Notre Dame (5-2, 1-0) to its fifth consecutive win in a Mission League opener at Chaminade.

Pam Powers had 10 kills for Chaminade (4-2, 0-1).

Bell-Jeff d. Louisville, 15-8, 15-9, 15-3--Andrea Serchaw had 10 kills to lead Bell-Jeff to a San Fernando Mission League win over Louisville at Bell-Jeff.

Saugus d. Palmdale, 17-15, 15-13, 15-3--Jeannie Lane had seven kills and Lindsay Estes had four for visiting Saugus (3-4) in a Golden League opener.

Kennedy d. Cleveland, 15-4, 15-8, 15-13--Viola Sarkozy had nine kills and Suzie Obrador added nine service aces for visiting Kennedy (2-3) in a Northwest Valley Conference match.

Royal 15, Westlake 4--Jack Kocur scored four goals for Royal (6-3) in a Marmonte League opener at Westlake.
