Points Leader Andino to Surf in Florida Event

Dino Andino of San Clemente, current points leader on the Professional Surfing Assn. of America tour, will be among 200 surfers competing this week at the $50,000 Op East championships in Sebastian Inlet, Fla.

The five-day competition begins today with the quarterfinals, semifinals and finals scheduled for Sunday morning.

Andino, who has finished second in the point standings the last three years, leads Chris Brown of Santa Barbara by 286 points. Other area surfers expected to compete include Pat O’Connell and Vince de la Pena of Laguna Niguel and Matt Archbold of San Clemente.

The Op East competition is the 10th event on an 11-stop tour. The final competition of the season will be the U.S. championships Oct. 31-Nov. 4 at Ocean Beach in San Francisco.
