The knee injury that has sidelined Mark Rypien could be an expensive one for the Washington Redskins’ quarterback.

Rypien, who damaged ligaments in his left knee in a game Sept. 23, is playing out his option after turning down the Redskins’ contract offer worth $700,000 this season.

Rypien had turned down a three-year, $2.4-million deal that included $600,000 in incentives. He’s playing for $275,000 this season.
