Share

Cal State Long Beach will seek its third victory in a row and New Mexico State will try to avoid a 22nd consecutive defeat in a Big West Conference football game today at 1 p.m. in Veterans Stadium.

Last season, the Aggies set a school record for points scored but lost, 55-48, to the 49ers, whom they have never defeated.

Long Beach, 2-3 overall and 1-1 in the Big West, is coming off a 21-20 victory over Boise State.

The 49ers are led by quarterback Todd Studer, who has completed 38 of 67 passes for 614 yards and five touchdowns. His leading receivers are Mark Seay, who has 22 catches for 294 yards, and Jeff Exum, who has 14 catches for 298 yards.

New Mexico State (0-4, 0-1) has the longest current losing streak in Division I and hasn’t won since defeating Kansas on Oct. 1, 1988. The Aggies are 7-63 since 1984.

New Mexico State depends on fullback Jimmie Mitchell, who gained 132 yards in a 42-3 loss to Fresno State two weeks ago, and flanker Alvin Warren, who has 100 catches as an Aggie.
