Exclusive Partner Ties World Record in Victory
Exclusive Partner equaled the world record of 1:44 4/5 for 1 1/8 miles on the turf Friday in winning the $60,000 allowance feature at the Oak Tree meeting at Santa Anita.
The 8-year-old rallied in the final strides for a half-length victory over Ultrasonido. The Medic finished third, another neck back.
The winner, ridden by Kent Desormeaux under high weight of 121 pounds, paid $5 to win as part of a favored entry with Polar Boy. The time trimmed a fifth of a second off the course record set by Sugarplum Gal on Oct. 7, 1989, and matched the world standard set by Frosty The Snowman at Woodbine in Toronto on June 18, 1989.
Jockey Patrick Valenzuela was excused from his mounts in the last two races by track stewards after being kicked in the leg by Figure Out while dismounting after the seventh race.
