Mark O’Meara came from four shots back Sunday with a seven-under-par 63 and won the Texas Open at San Antonio by a single stroke.

Winning his sixth tour title and second of the year, O’Meara slipped in without a playoff when Gary Hallberg three-putted the par-three 18th, a hole O’Meara had bogeyed half an hour earlier.

O’Meara, 33, overtook third-round leader Nick Price with a 30 on the front nine and hung on for a 72-hole total of 261, 19 under par for the Oak Hills course.

The victory earned the former U.S. Amateur champion $144,000.

Price, who started the day with a two-shot lead, shot a 69 and finished third at 263.

Hallberg, who had a final-round 66, put his tee shot at 18 on the green. His attempt at a winning birdie slid past the hole, then he missed the putt that would have forced a playoff.

Charles Coody and Al Geiberger took turns trying to give away the title in the Vantage Championship. Geiberger succeeded.

He chopped up the 17th hole even worse than his opponent did in a comedy of errors that eventually produced a three-stroke victory for Coody at Clemmons, N.C.

Coody, in his third season among the seniors, won his second individual title with a closing round of 70, two under par on the Tanglewood Country Club course.

He won with a 202 total, 14 under par, and collected $202,500 from a purse of $1.5 million.
