THOUSAND OAKS : Vandalism Reported at Jewish Center

Share

Anti-Semitic vandalism to the door of a Thousand Oaks Jewish center was reported to law enforcement officials Thursday by a man who said he lost relatives in the Holocaust.

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the carving of two swastikas and obscenities in the door frame at the Conejo Valley division of the Jewish Federation Council of Greater Los Angeles, 80 E. Hillcrest Drive.

Deputies believe the incident took place between Oct. 4 and 11.

Irving August, a 64-year-old Ventura man doing business in the office building Thursday, saw the swastikas.

“I was offended, obviously, and I went and called the cops,” August said.

“You shouldn’t ignore something like that . . . Being Jewish, it makes it very personal. I lost a lot of relatives in the Holocaust.”
