California IN BRIEF : VALLEJO : Small Quake Hits S.F. Bay Area

A small earthquake shook the San Francisco Bay Area on Saturday evening, but there were no reports of damage, officials said. Bruce Presgrave of the U.S. Geological Survey’s National Earthquake Center in Golden, Colo., said the temblor, which hit at 7:06 p.m., measured 3.1 and was centered 15 miles northwest of Berkeley and about five miles south-southwest of Vallejo. A spokesman for the California Department of Emergency Services said the quake was located in an area between the Concord and Hayward faults north of San Francisco Bay. The quake was felt in Concord, San Rafael, Vallejo and surrounding areas.
