PRO FOOTBALL REPORT : WEEKDAY UPDATE : RAIDERS : Horton Latest Project to Make Good
Ethan Horton may be one of Al Davis’ best reclamation projects.
Horton was a first-round draft choice of the Kansas City Chiefs as a running back from North Carolina in 1985, but never made it. After sitting out the ’86 season, he was signed by the Raiders in ’87 but released after the season. Horton had missed all of the ’88 season when the Raiders called again, asking him if he’d move to tight end. Horton jumped at the chance.
Sunday against Seattle, Horton caught five passes for 63 yards, including a three-yard scoring pass from Jay Schroeder, in the Raiders’ 24-17 victory over the Seahawks.
How will the role of running back Marcus Allen, who was not traded Tuesday, be affected by Bo Jackson, who makes his first practice appearance today? “Marcus Allen will still get his playing time,” Coach Art Shell said.
At the same position?
“At the same position, yes,” Shell said.
