1 Hurt, 2 Escape in Firebombing of Car

Two men, apparently in a retaliatory attack, firebombed a station wagon where a man, a woman and her son were sleeping, authorities said Thursday.

The woman and her son escaped injury in the attack, which occurred about 11 p.m. Wednesday in Norwalk, but the man suffered first- and second-degree burns. The victim, Louis Harvey, 39, a transient, was taken to Coast Plaza Medical Center where he was treated for burns on one arm and both legs and released.

“Supposedly, (the victim) had been in an altercation with the suspects and this was done in retaliation,” Deputy Jim Gonzales said. The victims reportedly know their assailants only by first name. The suspects remained at large Thursday, Sheriff’s Lt. Michael McDermott said.

Harvey and his girlfriend, Patricia Lott, 42, were asleep in their station wagon when her son, William, 8, saw the men approaching, carrying lighted firebombs, authorities said.
