Johnson’s 3 Touchdown Passes Lead El Toro Past Dana Hills
Rob Johnson threw three touchdown passes to lead No. 1-ranked El Toro to a 33-6 victory over Dana Hills in a South Coast League game at Dana Hills Friday night.
El Toro (8-0, 3-0 in league) scored 21 consecutive points in the fourth quarter after Dana Hills (3-4-1, 0-3) surprised the Chargers by trailing by just 12-6 after three quarters.
Two of Johnson’s touchdown passes were in the fourth quarter. The first went to Bret Sanders for 30 yards, and the second went to Wade Jackson for 26 yards.
Johnson completed 15 of 21 passes for 192 yards and threw one interception.
Sanders was the game’s leading rusher with 93 yards in 16 carries and one touchdown.
The Chargers drove 66 yards for the game’s first touchdown midway through the second quarter. Brad Hulse caught a 17-yard pass from Johnson for the score. Shaun Coleman blocked the extra-point attempt.
Dana Hills then drove from its own 20 to the El Toro eight before settling for a 21-yard field goal by John Ashley to make it 6-3 with 1 minute 30 seconds left in the half.
But El Toro’s James Rios returned the ensuing kickoff 52 yards to the Dana Hills 35, and following a 24-yard pass from Johnson to Jackson, Sanders scored from the one.
