6 Injured in Separate Shootings, Stabbings

Five people were injured in unrelated violent acts Friday and a sixth was shot Monday in Northeast Los Angeles, police said.

On Lao, 21, of Echo Park was shot once in the neck Monday night while he was parking his car in the 1400 block of Sunset Boulevard, Los Angeles Police Detective Ron Whitt said.

Lao told police that a car pulled up beside his and that someone pulled a gun and fired a shot that went through the driver’s side window.

Early Friday, Javier Torres Avila, 34, was stabbed 41 times in the back, face and arms by four gang members in the 1500 block of Eagle Rock Boulevard, police said.

Torres was attacked after he had crossed the street, forcing a car to stop, police said.

About 2 a.m. Friday, Jerry McCarter, 40, of Highland Park and Lorraine Fuentes, 40, of Glassell Park were driving in the 5900 block of Benner Street when the occupants of a small white car pulled up and fired at them, police said. The two ducked and suffered only minor cuts, police said.

Johnny Chapa, 16, of Glassell Park was shot once in the right chest about 2:20 a.m. Friday while he was in his room in a house in the 3100 block of Isabel Drive, police said.

Michael De Santiago, 15, of Tujunga and Edward White, 15, of Atwater Village were shot about 8:35 p.m. Friday while standing outside White’s house in the 3000 block of Perlita Avenue, police said.

They were talking when a car with three occupants drove up and opened fire. Both White and De Santiago were hit in the upper torso.

All the victims were taken to area hospitals and were expected to recover.

Police have no suspects in any of the cases.
