In another City Western game:

La Jolla 20, Mission Bay 13--E.J. Watson had 109 yards in 13 carries as La Jolla finished league play 3-0-1 (7-1-1 overall). Andy Guyader threw for 119 yards for Mission Bay (4-5, 0-3).

Avocado League

Oceanside 17, Ramona 10--Oceanside’s Brian McGehee returned a kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown before halftime and Isaia Isaia returned a Ramona fumble 23 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter. Oceanside quarterback John Portugal completed five of 11 passes for 33 yards and two interceptions. Ramona quarterback John Cappasola was eight of 19 for 82 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Oceanside improved its record to 4-4-1, 3-2-1; Ramona dropped to 4-5, 2-4.

Carlsbad 20, San Pasqual 15--Charlie Grant ran for touchdowns of 20 and 15 yards for Carlsbad (6-2-1, 3-2-1), and teammate Calvin Coleman had two interceptions. Bill Geddes threw a touchdown pass and ran eight yards for a touchdown for San Pasqual (3-5-1, 2-3-1).

San Marcos 24, Escondido 20--Denny McAdams scored the game-winner with 16 seconds to play on a 25-yard pass from Lance Gallegos. Gallegoa completed five of seven passes for 100 yards. Keith Williams rushed for 105 yards in 19 carries for host Escondido (5-4, 3-3). San Marcos is 6-2-1, 4-1-1.

City Eastern League

Morse 57, Patrick Henry 13--Gary Taylor, the county’s leading rusher, had 212 yards in 17 carries, including touchdown runs of 37, 28 and one yards for top-ranked Morse (9-0, 3-0). Taylor’s brother, Cary, who caught a 35-yard touchdown pass from Teddy Lawrence, also rushed for 51 yards in three carries, including a 35-yard touchdown. Conan Smith added 58 yards rushing and two touchdowns. Nathan Nelson had 73 yards in 20 carries for Patrick Henry (4-4-1, 0-2-1).

Point Loma 49, Serra 0--The visiting Pointers (7-1, 2-1) bounced back from last week’s 40-13 loss to top-ranked Morse. Marlon Manassa (15 carries, 134 yards) scored three touchdowns on runs of two and 57 yards and a five-yard reception from quarterback Rick Munoz (10-15, 163 yards). Serra (0-8-1, 0-3-1).

City Harbor League

Coronado 14, Marian 12--Defense was the key for Coronado (4-5, 2-1) as Chad Walery intercepted two passes, Chris Bright recovered two fumbles and Marian’s conversion run attempt that would have tied the score was stopped with 2:43 remaining. Marco Palumbo rushed 15 times for 100 yards for Coronado. Adam Smith threw a 28-ard touchdown pass to Bright and ran 16 yards for another. Grossmont 3-A League

El Capitan 16, Monte Vista 0--Eric Rockhold carried the ball 22 times for 109 yards, including a nine-yard touchdown run, for previously winless El Capitan (1-8, 1-2). Monte Vista dropped to 1-8, 1-4.

1-A Eight-Man League

Bishop’s 46, Julian 0--The game was called minutes into the third quarter because of the 45-point mercy rule. Ryan Smith had 167 yards and two touchdowns in 12 carries for Bishop’s (8-1, 6-0). Julian fell to 6-2-1, 3-2-1. Nonleague

Chula Vista 33, Institute of Mexico 0--LeMar Bailey, who rushed for 126 yards in 10 carries, and Steve Gomez, who rushed for 118 yards in 17 carries, each had a touchdown run and reception for No. 6 Chula Vista (7-2).

University City 17, St. Augustine 12--With a 52-yard field goal, Ian Krebs now has three kicks exceeding 50 yards this season for University City (3-5). John Mozerka had an 80-yard touchdown run for St. Augustine (5-3-1).

Mira Mesa 36, Madison 16--Wayne Pittman rushed 14 times for 237 yards and two touchdowns to lead host Mira Mesa (8-1). Tom Armstrong added 116 yards and a touchdown on four carries. Madison is 5-4.
