Dick Hill, who began coaching in Orange County in 1959, will attempt to tie Herb Hill as the county’s winningest football coach when Santa Ana plays Lynwood in a nonleague game at 7:30 tonight in Santa Ana Stadium.

Dick Hill (not related to Herb) enters the game with a career mark of 190-81-3 in tenures at Santa Ana Valley and Santa Ana. He joined Santa Ana in 1984 and won four consecutive Century League titles beginning in 1986 before the Saints moved into the Sunset League this season.

Herb Hill posted a 191-114-11 record at Rancho Alamitos and Loara from 1956 until he retired last year. Dick Hill is tied with Clare VanHoorebeke of Anaheim, whose record was 190-49-10 from 1950-72.

And they fell behind Fountain Valley, 21-7, last week but rallied behind the running of fullback Kevin Pola, who gained 98 yards in 12 carries and scored twice in the fourth quarter.

Lynwood (4-4, 3-2) of the San Gabriel Valley League is led by tailback-cornerback Eugene Jackson, a returning All-Division III player. Jackson has 430 yards in 89 carries and has scored five touchdowns. Teammate Brian Durden has 574 yards in 100 carries and has scored three touchdowns.
