A taxpayer-funded stadium for the San Francisco Giants in Santa Clara, promoted as the last chance to keep the baseball team in Northern California, trailed in early returns.
The proposed 1% utility tax, to finance a $153-million stadium, was losing in absentee ballot returns from five cities in Santa Clara County. Also trailing was a measure to allow use of city-owned land in Santa Clara for the ballpark.
