THE SIDELINES : Boxer Cleared of Murder Bid
Former world junior-welterweight boxing champion Terry Marsh was cleared by a jury today of trying to murder ex-Manager Frank Warren in a street shooting.
Loud applause broke out at London’s Old Bailey court when the jury of seven men and five women found the former International Boxing Federation titlist innocent. He had spent 10 months in jail awaiting trial.
Warren, one of Britain’s leading fight promoters, was shot by a hooded gunman outside a boxing arena last Nov. 30. He recovered fully although a bullet narrowly missed his heart.
The prosecutor at London’s Old Bailey court alleged that his attacker was Marsh, a professional firefighter whom Warren had guided to fame as a world champion two years previously.
Marsh retired undefeated in 1988 after 27 professional fights.
