Fires damaged homes in Tierrasanta, Encanto and Vista Thursday.

Santa Ana winds fanned a fire in a Tierrasanta canyon, causing more than $100,000 in damage, San Diego fire officials said.

The fire, still under investigation, began shortly before 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in canyon brush but quickly spread to the wood-shake roofs of 15 homes on Via Cascabel, Rueda Court, Valiente Court and Cascajo Court near Tierrasanta Boulevard.

A home in the 10800 block of Via Cascabel suffered the worst damage--$70,000 worth, fire officials said. About 75 firefighters with six fire engines, eight brush rigs, a water tanker and other equipment brought the two-alarm fire under control about 4 p.m. Wednesday.

The fire, which began shortly before noon, caused $205,000 damage to the home and its contents in the 800 block of Marjorie Drive, fire officials said. Alerted by a smoke detector, a 30-year-old mother escaped unharmed with her four children.
