HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL ROUNDUP : Mattison Carries Undefeated Fairfax Over Hamilton

Fairfax High running back Mario Mattison rushed for 95 yards in 16 carries and scored one touchdown, as the Lions clinched the City Coastal Conference championship Friday with a 20-6 victory over Hamilton.

Fairfax, The Times’ fifth-ranked team, improved its overall record to 8-0, 6-0 in conference. The host Yankees are 0-9 and 0-6.

Lion running back Lee Brothers rushed for 39 yards and scored two touchdowns, including a 12-yard run in the first quarter. Brothers added a one-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Fairfax quarterback Rahim Muhammad completed nine of 18 passes for 72 yards and rushed for 54 yards in eight carries.

Jefferson 34, Fremont 6--Junior running back Tony Thomas rushed for 120 yards in 16 carries and scored three touchdowns to lead the Democrats to a Southeastern Conference victory at Jefferson.

Thomas scored twice on two-yard runs and added a three-yard scoring run, helping Jefferson improve its overall record to 3-5-1 and conference mark to 2-5. Fremont is 4-5 and 3-5.

Democrat quarterback Darryl Cooley scored on a six-yard run and also intercepted two passes.

Banning 48, Crenshaw 6--Travis Davis rushed for 210 yards and three touchdowns in 14 carries as the Pilots won the Pacific League game at Crenshaw.

Davis, who had more than 200 yards rushing for the third consecutive game, scored on runs of 39, eight and six yards, raising his season total to 1,353 yards.

Banning (6-3, 5-1) rolled up 444 yards in total offense and limited Crenshaw (2-6, 2-4) to a late fourth-quarter touchdown.
