Having surrendered a humbling 45 points last week against Glendale, the Moorpark College defense was back in black Saturday night.

Playing in its home black uniforms, Moorpark put the Ventura offense in the red and Moorpark won, 44-10, in a Western State Conference Northern Division game.

Moorpark limited Ventura to 15 rushing yards, including 10 rushes for negative yardage but not including three botched punt snaps, and held Ventura scoreless in the second half.

In his final regular-season game for Moorpark, Freddie Bradley added a few more national junior college records to his resume.

Bradley finished with 171 rushing yards in 23 carries and rushed for three touchdowns.

His 18 points pushed his career total to 318, which surpassed O. J. Simpson’s mark of 304. He finished with 52 career touchdowns and topped Simpson’s mark of 50. He also tied the single-season rushing touchdown record of 27 held by Kelvin Minefee of Dixie, Utah.

Bradley was also unofficially credited with 184 all-purpose rushing yards, which would put him seven yards over the career mark of 4,115 held by Alonzo Washington of Gavilan (Calif).

Ventura led, 10-7, in the second quarter, then the dam broke as Moorpark scored 37 consecutive points.

Leading 28-10 at halftime, Moorpark scored 16 third-quarter points.

Jamal Anderson added 85 yards in seven carries for Moorpark, which had 333 rushing yards. Andrew Petroski made all six of his extra-point attempts to set a Moorpark single-season record of 42. Moorpark also had 197 passing yards.

Ventura’s Tim Albrent completed 21 of 34 passes for 281 yards. Chris Thomas had seven receptions for 83 yards, Curtis Richardson had six for 108 and Rob Turner had six for 84.

However, Ventura’s Tony Williams, who entered the game with 904 rushing yards, was held to 24 yards in 13 carries.

“We pretty much knew we were going to shut him down,” Moorpark linebacker Matt Pearson said. “We practice against Freddie Bradley every day.”

Moorpark advanced to 8-2 overall, 7-2 in conference play, 4-1 in Northern Division play. Ventura is 3-7, 3-6, 3-2.

Albrent’s first pass of the game was intercepted by John Corcoran, who returned the ball to the Ventura 44.

Two plays later, Bradley broke free for a 43-yard touchdown run.

The touchdown, his national career record-tying 50th, gave him 306 points for his career, eclipsing Simpson’s record. Simpson’s mark had stood since 1966, before Bradley was born.

Ventura battled back to take a 10-7 lead early in the second quarter.

Aaron Clark put Ventura on the scoreboard with a 47-yard field goal, and the Pirates practiced a bit of skulduggery on their next possession.

With first and 10 on the Ventura 47, Albrent, who passed for 189 yards before intermission, handed off to Williams, who handed to receiver Thomas on a fake reverse.

Thomas pitched back to Albrent who heaved a strike to a streaking Richardson for a 53-yard touchdown.

The remainder of the first half was all Moorpark.
