Winless Cleveland High Forfeits Playoff Game

Reseda Cleveland High, the only winless team in the City 4-A Division football playoffs, has forfeited its scheduled first-round game against Woodland Hills Taft because of injuries and academic ineligibility.

Cleveland administrators learned Monday that 12 players on the 50-man roster were ruled academically ineligible.

Jim Cromwell, Cleveland’s athletic director, said that Coach Steve Landress, who last week stated his intention to poll his players at practice Monday afternoon on whether to play the game, agreed with the decision. Four starters also were expected to miss the game because of injury, Cromwell said.

Cleveland finished the regular season Friday with an 0-8-1 record.

The playoffs begin Wednesday. Taft will have a bye and play at Granada Hills in a quarterfinal game Nov. 30.
