COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Golden West Women Eliminate Palomar in Volleyball Playoffs
Joli Eberhart had 14 kills to lead Golden West College to a victory over Palomar Tuesday in the first round of the Southern California Regional women’s volleyball playoffs at Golden West.
Brenda Irby added 11 kills for the Rustlers (20-3), who won, 15-4, 15-4, 15-2.
Tania Grasselli added eight kills for Golden West, the top-ranked team in Southern California. Palomar ends its season, 7-10.
In another Southern California Regional match:
Cuesta 3, Orange Coast 1--Carrie Schafhauser had 27 kills and Reiko Matsumoto 21 for OCC, which lost at Cuesta, 15-8, 15-6, 12-15, 15-5. OCC ends its season 12-6.
In the Mt. San Jacinto men’s basketball tournament:
Orange Coast 64, Mt. San Jacinto 60--Michael Wenzlaff scored 16 of his 18 points in the second half on eight of 10 shooting for OCC (4-0) in a semifinal-round game. OCC plays San Bernardino Valley at 7:30 tonight in the championship game.
Agustin Heredia scored 11 points, including two key baskets in the final three minutes, for OCC.
In a nonconference men’s basketball game:
El Camino 102, Golden West 83--Keishaun Darthard scored 37 points, including six three-pointers, for host El Camino (4-2).
Tom Dever was the only Golden West player in double figures with 15. Golden West is 1-3.
In nonconference women’s basketball:
Fullerton 96, Long Beach 80--Vicki Evans scored 14 points and Kris Kelly and Keri Erkenbrack each had 12 for visiting Fullerton.
Chaffey 62, Rancho Santiago 46--Cheryl Henderson scored 14 points for host Rancho Santiago (3-3). Marianne Karp added 12 for Rancho Santiago.
