With Dominique Wilkins leading the way, it seemed the Hawks would end their losing streak Saturday night at Atlanta.

There were only 10 1/2 minutes to play and the Atlanta Hawks led the Philadelphia 76ers, 106-88.

But three-point field goals by Kenny Payne and Charles Barkley in the final 22 seconds let the 76ers pull out a 124-121 victory.

After the 76ers pulled to 121-119 with 22 seconds to play on Payne’s shot, Wilkins, who scored 39 points, was tied up by Hersey Hawkins with 15 seconds left.

The 76ers won the tip and Barkley sank a three-point shot with eight seconds to play. Rickey Green’s two free throws with two seconds to play completed the scoring and the Hawks lost their seventh in a row.

Barkley, in early foul trouble, played only 33 minutes and had 23 points and seven rebounds.
