Karpov, Kasparov Agree to a Draw, Are Tied at 7 Points

Defending champion Gary Kasparov and challenger Anatoly Karpov agreed to a draw Tuesday in the 14th game of the World Chess Championship, leaving them deadlocked with seven points each.

The game had adjourned Monday night with Kasparov sealing his 41st move, Qc2. Both had three pawns, a rook, a queen and king left. Without resuming play Tuesday, Karpov accepted Kasparov’s offer of a draw. Game 15 is scheduled for today.
