The Orange County News channel, a 24-hour local news program produced by Freedom Newspapers Inc., said Tuesday that its broadcasts will be aired by five new cable systems by Jan. 1.

The new contracts will add about 124,500 cable subscribers to OCN’s broadcast area, giving it access to about 300,000 homes, said Alan Bell, president of Freedom Newspapers’ broadcast division.

The five cable systems adding OCN to their basic programming are: Colony Cable, which serves about 74,000 homes in Costa Mesa, Irvine and part of Newport Beach; Cablevision of Orange, with 22,000 subscribers; Yorba Linda Cable, with 14,000; Continental Cable in Tustin, with 10,000, and Rancho Santa Margarita Cable, with 4,500.
