Fire Guts Nightclub, Snarls Encino Traffic

An arson fire gutted a vacant Encino nightclub Wednesday and snarled early morning commuter traffic on Ventura Boulevard for about an hour while firefighters battled the blaze, the Los Angeles Fire Department reported.

About 50 firefighters were called to the one-story building at 15910 Ventura Blvd. at 5:51 a.m., city Fire Department spokesman Jim Wells said. There were no injuries in the fire, which engulfed the empty 7,500-square-foot building.

The building, which formerly housed the nightclub and restaurant called Danny’s Apple, was scheduled to be demolished later this year and had been vacant for several years, officials said. No estimate on the loss was made because the building was to be demolished.

Fire investigators determined that the cause of the fire, which started inside the building, was arson, but there were no suspects.

Westbound Ventura Boulevard was blocked to traffic in the area and eastbound traffic was backed up by the fire and cleanup.
