CAMARILLO : Textbooks Displayed for Public Review

Share

Social science and history textbooks proposed for several Ventura County school districts are on display for public review before a vote by each district’s board of trustees on whether to adopt the books and supporting materials.

The textbooks, intended for use in grades one through eight, are published by Houghton Mifflin and have already been approved by the office of the state superintendent of public instruction. It is each district’s responsibility to approve books and related materials, including workbooks, journals and related literature.

The Pleasant Valley Elementary School District has the texts on display until Dec. 13 at all Pleasant Valley schools; at the district library at 600 Temple Ave., Camarillo; or at the Education Services Center, 570 Airport Way, Camarillo. The books may be reviewed from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The Hueneme Elementary School District is seeking parents’ comments on the books before it considers adopting them, Assistant Supt. Nikki Davis said. The texts will be on display during an open house at the district’s main office at 205 N. Ventura Road in Port Hueneme from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. next week.

The textbooks are also on display at the Ventura Unified School District’s Instructional Materials Center at 120 E. Santa Clara St., Ventura, officials said.
