California IN BRIEF : SAN FRANCISCO : Lights Go Out in AIDS Observance

The lights went out Saturday night at San Francisco’s most famous sites, from Coit Tower to the Golden Gate Bridge, as part of statewide AIDS Awareness Day observances. During the day, art was shrouded--covering works from the J. Paul Getty Museum in Malibu to those hanging in galleries in San Jose, San Francisco and Santa Clara--to mourn AIDS’ devastating effect on the art community. Outside, AIDS quilts and banners dangled in cities across the state, urging people to remember those who have died from the disease.
