NBA ROUNDUP : Parish, Celtics Give Seattle 5th Loss in Row

Robert Parish scored 22 points in a balanced attack Monday night at Boston as the Celtics rode a 28-10 third-quarter advantage to a 135-102 victory over Seattle, the SuperSonics’ fifth consecutive loss.

Parish was joined in double figures by seven teammates as the Celtics breezed to their ninth victory in 10 games and boosted their record to 13-3.

Boston opened a 13-point lead in the first period and was ahead by as much as 12 in the second quarter, but Seattle battled back to 58-54 at halftime.

With an 11-2 run, Boston went ahead, 69-58, in the third quarter. Then, after two Seattle baskets, Boston went on runs of 13-0 and 24-6 to carry a comfortable advantage into the final quarter.

Seattle’s Xavier McDaniel, among the NBA’s leading scorers with a 23.8 average, scored only two points.

Utah 135, Washington 101--Karl Malone scored 17 of his 38 points in the first quarter as the Jazz took a 23-point lead after 12 minutes and coasted at home.

Malone also grabbed 15 rebounds. Jeff Malone, traded from the Bullets to the Jazz last summer, scored a season-high 28 points in his first game against Washington, which has lost seven in a row against Utah.

The Jazz scored the first nine points of the game, and went ahead, 22-2, 5:02 into the game, with Karl Malone scoring 10 in the run.
