Marty Brennaman, the Cincinnati Reds’ play-by-play announcer since 1974, has scheduled outpatient surgery on his vocal cords for Thursday. Brennaman said a polyp, or nodule, has been found on his left vocal cord. “The doctor said he is 99.9% certain that it isn’t anything more than that,” Brennaman said. “The biggest fear I have is that I’ll wake up and sound like Pee-wee Herman and my career will be over.”
