Two people were wounded in unrelated shootings Wednesday night, police said.

The first occurred about 8:30 p.m. at Centennial Park on Fairview Street. A 25-year-old man who had apparently been playing baseball at the park was shot in the cheek by a gunman driving past the field, police said.

“The bullet went in one cheek and out the other,” a police spokesman said.

The unidentified victim was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange. His condition was not immediately available, but it appeared that his injuries were not life threatening, police said.

The second shooting occurred about 9:50 p.m. in the 500 block of North Jackson Avenue when three assailants fired at least one shot at a youth who was apparently trying to prevent his car from being stolen, police said.

The youth, who also was not identified, was hit in the back, police said. He was also taken to UCI Medical Center; his condition wasn’t available late Wednesday.

Police said they had no additional information on either shooting.
