PRO FOOTBALL REPORT / WEEKDAY UPDATE : RAIDERS : Golic Would Be Happy in Bandit Role

Share

Noseguard Bob Golic might not play much against the Lions Monday night because the Raiders probably will use their bandit defensive unit, which employs an extra defensive back, to neutralize Detroit’s run-and-shoot offense.

But Golic jokingly maintained that he’s an extraordinary pass rusher.

“I have four sacks this year,” Golic said. “They can’t keep a threat like me off the field. I’m sure the Lions are probably game-planning for me and designing a lot of their offensive schemes around me because I am such a pass rush threat.”

Wide receiver Keith McDonald, signed by the Raiders Wednesday, has been playing defensive back in practice.

However, Coach Art Shell said the Raiders probably won’t use McDonald in the secondary during a game.

Although the Lions have lost eight of 12 games this season, they are 4-0 in domed stadiums. They have won two at the Pontiac Silverdome and they beat the Saints at the Superdome and the Vikings at the Metrodome.
