Pomona : Smith Studies Reelection
Mayor Donna Smith, who last month said she plans to seek a third term, now says she is reevaluating whether to run again.
Smith’s son Sean, an 18-year-old Army private, suffered severe burns Nov. 8 while lighting a stove at a training base in Virginia. Smith said she has been so preoccupied by her son’s injuries that she hasn’t had time to think through her own plans.
Smith has more than two weeks in which to make up her mind. Candidates for mayor and four City Council seats must file papers by Dec. 27.
By mid-afternoon Thursday, 10 candidates had taken out nominating papers for the March 5 municipal election, including Councilman Tomas Ursua, who is running for mayor, and Councilwoman Nell Soto, who announced that she will seek reelection in the 1st District.
