A suspected drunk driver allegedly traveling about 100 m.p.h. down a Mid-Wilshire street ran a red light and slammed broadside into another car, shearing it in half and killing its driver, authorities said Monday.

The driver of the second car died at the scene of the 11:10 p.m. Sunday crash at Third Street and Vermont Avenue, Sgt. Ken Ward said. The dead man was identified as Erik Diaz, 25. Pictures of his October wedding were found in his wrecked car.

A 16-year-old youth driving without a license was at the wheel of the speeding vehicle, Detective Richard Litsinger said. The teen-ager, suspected of drunk driving, and two passengers in his car were seriously injured, police said.

The teen-ager underwent surgery at County-USC Medical Center and was to be booked in the facility’s jail ward when his condition allowed, Litsinger said.
