Ken Wallace, whose specialty was hunting down opposing quarterbacks, was named Cal State Northridge’s most valuable player at the football team’s banquet Monday at The Odyssey restaurant in Granada Hills.
Wallace, a senior outside linebacker, was also selected most outstanding defensive player. Tailback Albert Fann, CSUN’s career rushing leader, was named most outstanding offensive player.
Northridge finished 7-4 this season and was co-champion of the Western Football Conference.
The team’s Academic Award went to Rodney Menzel, who last week became the first CSUN football player to be selected to the Division II Academic All-American team. Menzel, a senior offensive guard majoring in business administration, has a 3.25 grade-point average.
Other award winners were Baron Atkinson (Kathryn Sefton Memorial Award); Joe Rice (Coaches Award, Offense); Tom Berry (Coaches Award, Defense); Terrell Taylor (most inspirational); Eric Treibatch (most improved); Victor DeVaughn (special teams); Cornell Ward (offensive scout); Tony Simon (defensive scout), and John Schenk (Blackshirt).
