In the Metro Conference:

Sweetwater 68, Hilltop 50--Melvin Rushing scored 24 points, and Pateros Woodson had four three-pointers and finished with 19 points to lead Sweetwater to its 16th consecutive conference victory dating back to last season.

The Red Devils won the game despite hitting only nine of 24 free throws and improved to 6-1, 2-0.

Courtney Brown led Hilltop with 15 points.

Bonita Vista 83, Southwest 63--Rope Perry scored 32 points, including 15 in the final quarter, to lead Bonita Vista (5-1, 1-0).

As a team, Bonita Vista hit 13 of 15 free throws in the fourth quarter, in which the Barons outscored Southwest, 31-18.

Mike Hart added 15 for Bonita Vista, David Rusk 13, and Frank Peralta 10. Peralta pulled down 17 rebounds and Perry grabbed 14.

Zachary Reiff led Southwest by hitting six three-pointers and scoring 25 points. Deven Patterson added 19 points.

Montgomery 66, Mar Vista 49--Senior center Leslie Shaw scored 27 points and pulled down 13 rebounds as Montgomery improved to 2-2, 1-0 in conference.

Ryan Payton was the only other Aztec in double figures with 10 points and John Anglin had 12 for Mar Vista.

Chula Vista 82, Castle Park 70--Jerome Green led Chula Vista with 27 points and Ken McDuffy added 13. McDuffy was eight for eight from the free-throw line. Benji Gill led Castle Park with 25 points.

Chula Vista improved to 4-2, 1-0.

In other nonleague games:

Mira Mesa 61, Grossmont 50--After going in at halftime tied at 30, Mira Mesa limited Grossmont to nine points in the third quarter and 11 in the fourth quarter to win its fifth game in a row after opening the season with two losses. David Butler led the Marauders with 23 points, and Ryan Cunningham added 13. Cunningham also grabbed 10 rebounds. Mira Mesa’s Mike Phillips led both teams with 15 rebounds. He also scored 10 points. Mike Kingsley and Jarrett Larson led Grossmont with 17 points and Mike Kingsley added 12.

Christian 87, Crawford 53--Vince Clark had 12 of his game-high 26 points in the third quarter as Christian (6-1) outscored Crawford in that quarter, 30-17. Chad DeGrenier, a senior point guard, added 20 points for Christian and David Piester had 17. Piester also grabbed 17 rebounds, including 13 in the first half.

St. Augustine 87, West Hills 51--St. Augustine turned up a full-court press in the second period and outscored West Hills, 33-11, to coast to its fifth victory in five games. Zack Smith had 18 points and eight rebounds, John Gergurich had 16 points, and Matt Bonin had eight assists and four steals for the visiting Saints. Josh Reiderer and Steve Poirer scored 14 apiece for West Hills.

Ramona 99, Clairemont 66--Clairemont scored the first basket of the third quarter to go ahead, 35-34, but then it was all Ramona. The Bulldogs (4-1) outscored Clairemont, 38-14 and 27-19 in the third and fourth quarters. Travis Knight had 33 points, 16 rebounds and eight blocks, Clint Cook had 23 points, and Alfonso de la Nuez had 15 points, 12 steals and 11 assists for Ramona. Alex Love had 25 points and 11 rebounds for Clairemont (2-3).

Granite Hills 54, Rancho Bernardo 43--Bill McMahon had 20 points for Rancho Bernardo (2-3) in a losing effort at Granite Hills (2-6).

Field Hockey

Seniors Chris Blackwell and Barbara Hansen of Serra High School were named to the 1990 Penn Monto All-American first team. Hansen had 10 goals and 12 assists, Blackwell nine and five for the San Diego Section champion Conquistadors.
