Raiders Fan Pleads Not Guilty in Attack at Game
A Los Angeles Raiders fan pleaded not guilty Friday to beating up a Pittsburgh Steelers fan during a game between the two football teams at the Coliseum.
Shane Geringer, 19, of Agoura Hills was arraigned before Superior Court Judge Gary Klausner on felony charges of assault with a deadly weapon and battery causing serious bodily injury. The judge set a pretrial hearing for Dec. 18.
At a preliminary hearing, Mark Zanelli, a fan who was at the Sept. 23 game, testified that Geringer knocked Paul Albrecht, 35, of Tucson, Ariz., to the ground then “knelt down and hit (him) three more times.”
Albrecht briefly lapsed into a coma, suffered a broken jaw and was hospitalized for more than a week.
Geringer’s lawyer, Leslie Abramson, has described him as a “fanatic Raiders fan” who has a drinking problem.
The Coliseum Commission banned alcohol from the subsequent Raiders game, and on Nov. 7 it voted to restrict future sales.
