COLLEGE BASKETBALL : Moorpark Bounces Back, Topples Pasadena, 102-92

The Moorpark College men’s basketball team bounced back from its second loss of the season to handle Pasadena City, 102-92, Friday night and finish third in the Crown City Classic at Pasadena.

After a dismal second half in a Thursday night loss to Rancho Santiago, Moorpark rebounded with a 57-point, second-half explosion against Pasadena.

Moorpark’s Sam Crawford accounted for more than two-thirds of his team’s total with 33 points and 18 assists. Crawford, who broke the Moorpark career assist record two games ago, now has 609.

All five Moorpark starters scored in double figures. Shooting guard Damian Wilson scored 24. Forwards Jimmy Galbert and Mike Waggoner each scored 10, and center Aaron Smith added 13.

Moorpark is 13-2, and Pasadena is 8-8.

WOMEN

Valley 68, Grossmont 41--Center Wendy Bruse scored 14 points and pulled down 13 rebounds for Valley in a nonconference win over visiting Grossmont.

Tisa Rush did not start but tied Bruse for team scoring honors with 14. Roz Linton added 10 points and 11 rebounds for Valley (10-1), which led, 34-14, at halftime.

Pierce 70, Southwestern 60--Lisa Little scored 27 points and Melanie Sapon had 18 points and 10 rebounds for Pierce (9-2), which won its sixth consecutive game and advanced to meet Riverside in the title game of the Canyons tournament.

Yolanda Davidson had 15 points and 11 rebounds for Pierce.

Antelope Valley 78, Mt. San Jacinto 55--Antelope Valley built a 17-point halftime lead and advanced to the consolation final of the Canyons tournament.

Guards Anna Quiles and Crischelle Gill led a balanced Antelope Valley attack with 14 points each.

Ventura 84, San Bernardino 43--In only her second game of the season, Ventura freshman Vanessa Hackett, a first-team All-Western State Conference volleyball player, scored 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.
