James Worthy has pleaded no contest to two misdemeanor charges of soliciting prostitution in Houston.

He was fined $1,000, ordered to perform 40 hours of community service and placed on deferred adjudication probation for one year. If he meets the terms of his probation, both charges will be dismissed.

Worthy had pleaded not guilty at his arraignment. The new plea was entered Thursday in Houston by Worthy’s attorney, Cornel Williams. Sentence was pronounced by visiting County Court-at-Law Judge Bob Moen.

Worthy was arrested on Nov. 15, before the Lakers’ game against the Rockets. Houston police said he had called an escort service that they monitor, and they sent two officers posing as escorts. They reported that Worthy proposed a transaction for sex, and arrested him.

The Lakers said they had no comment. Worthy has declined to comment since the arrest.
