HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : St. Genevieve, Assisted by Rodriguez, Claims Mojave Championship

Patrick Rodriguez scored 16 points to lead St. Genevieve High to a 57-46 victory over Village Christian in the championship game of the Mojave tournament at Mojave High on Saturday night.

Jesse De La O scored 16 points and added eight rebounds for St. Genevieve (5-3) and teammate Josh Smith had seven points and six assists.

John Brown scored a game-high 23 points for Village Christian.

Rodriguez was selected the tournament’s most valuable player.

In other boys’ basketball games:

Blair 87, Harvard 74--The Saracens (4-2) held a one-point lead at halftime but went flat in the third quarter, allowing Blair to take a 69-56 lead in a nonleague game at Harvard.

Harvard was led by Andres Carlo’s 24 points and Markus Puhvel’s 22.

Canyon 79, Canyon (Anaheim) 62--Reggie Hagans scored 19 points to lead the Cowboys to a third-place finish of the El Dorado tournament in Placentia.

The Cowboys (4-3) trailed, 17-15, after the first quarter but outscored the Comanches, 22-9, in the second to take a 37-26 lead at halftime.

Lance Moore added 16 for the Cowboys, followed by Joe Ferguson with 14.

Kevin Wilborn scored a game-high 21 points for the Comanches.

Hillcrest Christian 60, Oak Hill 37--The Saints outscored Oak Hill, 30-7, in the first quarter and coasted to a Westside League victory at the Thousand Oaks Teen Center.

The Raiders’ Matt Freedman scored a game-high 26 points and grabbed 18 rebounds. Matt Galbreath fouled out late in the third quarter and, despite being forced to play the final quarter with only four players, the Raiders outscored the Saints, 14-11, in that period.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Hart 81, Dos Pueblos 21--Anjanette Dionne scored 21 of her game-high 30 points in the first half to lead Hart in a first-round game of the Simi Valley tournament.

Dionne had four three-point baskets for Hart (8-0) and teammate Carol Gruhlke added 12 points.

Newbury Park 64, Apple Valley 35--Kristin Olson scored 26 points to lead Newbury Park (4-2) in a first-round game of the Simi Valley tournament.

Thousand Oaks 44, La Canada 25--Michelle Palmisano scored 20 points to lead Thousand Oaks (9-2) in the championship game of the Bell-Jeff/Burroughs tournament. La Canada is 8-1.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Burroughs 1, Santa Paula 0--Dan Rosales scored late in the first half to lead Burroughs (8-2) in the championship game of the Thousand Oaks tournament.

Burroughs goalkeeper Mika Persson, who recorded six saves, posted his sixth shutout of the season for the Indians. Santa Paula fell to 6-2.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Chaminade 1, Santa Clara 0--Tiffany Van Leeuwen scored the only goal of the match as Chaminade (5-0-3) won the consolation B bracket of the Simi Valley tournament.

Chaminade center fullback Amy Cook was named to the all-tournament team.

Louisville 2, South Pasadena 1--Shelley Gautreau and Julie Ley scored for Louisville (7-2) in the first half as the Royals won the consolation C bracket of the Simi Valley tournament.

South Pasadena is the defending Southern Section 2-A Division champion.
