A 38-year-old burglary suspect was arrested Monday after leading authorities on a wild, high-speed chase from Fountain Valley to Oceanside and back before crashing his car on Interstate 405 in Orange County.

Police Sgt. Larry Griswold said speeds topped 115 m.p.h. during the 75-minute pursuit, which involved a Huntington Beach police helicopter and patrol cars from the California Highway Patrol and local police agencies.

Fountain Valley police finally arrested Edmond D. Brick of Huntington Beach at 1:17 a.m. when he lost control of his car while traveling northbound on I-405 near the Magnolia Street off-ramp. Police recovered two personal computers, worth about $2,000, from the car.

Brick was paroled three years ago after he was sentenced to nine years in prison for a 1983 rape. He was being held Monday on suspicion of burglary, felony evasion and parole violation.

Griswold said the chase began shortly before midnight when witnesses saw a man loading computer equipment into his car at an office supply store in Fountain Valley.
