From Staff and Wire Reports

With the playoffs approaching, uninjured NFL quarterbacks are quickly becoming an endangered species.

With two weeks remaining in the regular season, at least five teams are without the services of their starting quarterbacks.

--The New York Giants’ Phil Simms could be sidelined for as long as six weeks because of a severely sprained right foot and probably will miss the first playoff game. Simms was hurt during Saturday’s 17-13 loss to Buffalo.

--The Chicago Bears’ Jim Harbaugh, who suffered a separated right shoulder in Sunday night’s 38-21 loss at Detroit, is expected to be sidelined through the playoffs.

--Cleveland Browns quarterback Bernie Kosar suffered a chip fracture and sprained ligament in the thumb of his throwing hand in a 10-3 victory over Atlanta and is doubtful for Sunday’s game against Pittsburgh.

--The Kansas City Chiefs’ Steve DeBerg, enjoying his best season of a 15-year career, remained in a hospital where doctors inserted a small pin in the little finger of his left hand, broken Sunday against the Houston Oilers. His status for this week’s game at San Diego is in doubt.

--Buffalo’s Jim Kelly said that doctors have told him he could be back for the playoffs. Kelly suffered a knee injury Saturday against the Giants.

--Green Bay’s Anthony Dilweg suffered a sprained arch Sunday.
