PREP ROUNDUP : Aliff Scores 27 as Savanna Rolls to Title

Stacey Aliff scored 27 points to lead Savanna High School to a 62-48 victory over Dana Hills in the championship game of the La Quinta girls’ basketball tournament Friday.

Carrie Frederick scored 21 points and was named the tournament’s most valuable player for Savanna (11-1). Aliff and Karen Endow, who had six points and nine rebounds, also were named to the all-tournament team.

In other La Quinta girls’ basketball tournament games:

Santiago 57, Corona del Mar 29--Vicki Elcock scored 20, America Robledo 12, Stephanie Cave 11 and Sonia Ramirez 10 for Santiago (3-3) in the third-place game. Molly Flint scored nine points to lead Corona del Mar.

Esperanza 47, La Quinta 26--In the consolation final, Kerry Edwards scored 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, and Lisa Ruppe scored 11 points for Esperanza (8-3).

In the Cypress Tournament:

Marina 51, Long Beach Millikan 46--Leslie Ono had nine points and five assists for Marina (8-1) in the third-place game. Ono was named to the all-tournament team.

Kennedy 62, Valencia 57 (OT)--Valerie Ruiz scored 29 points, including four in overtime, for Kennedy (9-2) in the consolation championship game.

In the South Torrance boys’ soccer tournament:

Ocean View 1, San Marcos 0--Peter Lak’s scored a first-half goal in a semifinal. Lak scored from 25 yards out on the right after a pass from Kevin Coye. Goalie Josh Page had seven saves for Ocean View (6-1-1) in the victory over last year’s tournament champion. Ocean View will play defending Southern Section 4-A Division champion Palos Verdes at 1 p.m. today in the final.

Ocean View narrowly made it to the semifinal game, defeating Rolling Hills, 4-3, on penalty kicks after the game ended in a 0-0 tie.

In Garden Grove League boys’ soccer:

Kennedy 2, La Quinta 0--David Heaton scored on a penalty kick 30 minutes into the game, and Eddie Lidyard scored with 10 minutes left on assist by Robert Weber for Kennedy (6-3-1, 2-0). Jerry Vargas had two saves in his second consecutive shutout and fourth overall. LaQuinta is 1-1 in league.

Bolsa Grande 6, Garden Grove 3--Art Ramirez scored three goals and Elvis Carrillo two for visiting Bolsa Grande (3-4-1, 1-1). Chuck Houston, Jaime Pelayo and Jesus Encico scored for Garden Grove.

In nonleague boys’ soccer:

El Dorado 2, Brea-Olinda 0--Dan Molnar and Rodrigo Cid scored for host El Dorado (5-4-1). Blayne Lightner had 13 saves and Tom Elison four for El Dorado. Neal Schuster had 19 for Brea-Olinda.

Costa Mesa 2, Fountain Valley 1--Duby Ospina scored at the 50-minute mark, and John Ospina scored in the 72nd minute for visiting Costa Mesa (5-1). Phil Chezek had four saves.

Katella 3, Buena Park 0--Danny Moreno, Jose Figueroa and Armando Orizaba scored for host Katella (8-2-1). Katella’s Scott Zinser had 13 saves. Buena Park is 3-6-0.

El Toro 1, Laguna Hills 1--Dustin Kemmerer scored for El Toro, Daynon Higgins for host Laguna Hills.

Sunny Hills 1, Valencia 0--Matt Marino in the second half for host Sunny Hills (6-3). Ryan McCormick had 11 saves for Sunny Hills.

Anaheim 1, Sonora 1--Mike Tsarnas scored for Anaheim (9-0-1), and Gabriel Cerna scored for host Sonora (5-2-3).
