Kemjuan Casey drilled an outside jump shot with one second remaining in overtime to propel Kennedy High to a 39-38 victory over Poly on Thursday night in a first-round game of the Birmingham tournament.

Kennedy (6-6) will face Reseda tonight at 7 in a semifinal game.

Casey also scored four of Kennedy’s 10 fourth-period points as the Golden Cougars rallied from a five-point deficit.

Three Kennedy players, including Casey, arrived late for the game, and a fourth, Joe Wyatt, didn’t show up at all, forcing Coach Yutaka Shimizu to start three players who are normally reserves. Bobby Winn led Kennedy with 10 points off the bench.
