COLLEGE BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Valley Wins 9th in Row, 84-67, With Flurry of 3-Point Baskets

Tisa Rush scored 23 points and four other players scored in double figures to pace Valley College to an 84-67 victory over El Camino on Thursday in the first round of the Fullerton tournament.
The Monarchs (14-1), who have won nine consecutive games since losing to Moorpark, were ranked No. 1 in the state in the latest J.C. Athletic Bureau rankings.
The Monarchs made nine three-point baskets, erasing the school record of seven set in 1986-87. Rush and Sylvia Castaneda each had three. Castaneda scored 15 points and Katina Mines, Roz Linton and Wendy Bruse each finished with 12 for the Monarchs.
In another first-round Fullerton tournament game:
Canyons 91, Long Beach City 69--Shannon Solway had 24 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Cougars. Guards Keira Irwin (six assists) and Shawnee Danels (seven) had little trouble breaking Long Beach’s full-court press.
MEN
Antelope Valley 99, Cerritos 86--J. R. Rider scored 36 points and teammate Tony Madison added 30, including six three-point baskets, to lead the Marauders (10-3) past Cerritos (15-5) in a first-round game of the College of the Desert tournament.
Antelope Valley led, 49-41, at halftime and never trailed. Rider pulled down 13 rebounds for the Marauders and teammate Ennis Wesley scored 14 points.
Canyons 98, Bellevue (Wash.) 80--Reggie Bell scored 27 points and had 13 rebounds to lead Canyons (7-7) to the first-round win at the Canyons tournament.
