PREP SOCCER ROUNDUP : Viloria’s Goals Lead El Toro to Final

Shawn Viloria led El Toro High School to its third tournament final appearance in three tries this season by scoring two goals in two games Friday in the Ocean View Girls’ Soccer Tournament at Ocean View High School.

Viloria and teammate Shannon deAvila each scored a goal in a 2-0 quarterfinal victory over Edison Friday morning.

Viloria pulled a leg muscle in the Edison game, but returned in the second half of the semifinal against Arcadia to score her team’s only goal in a 1-0 victory. It came with about 10 minutes left.

El Toro (16-0) will meet Mater Dei in today’s final at 11 a.m.

In another Ocean View tournament semifinal:

Mater Dei 1, University 1--The Monarchs (8-2-3) advanced on penalty kicks, 3-2. Kirstin Keyler scored in the second half to give Mater Dei a 1-0 lead. Kim Donahue, Diana Awadallah and Susan Steiner scored on the penalty kicks for Mater Dei.

Mater Dei had defeated Agoura, 1-0, earlier in the quarterfinals. Trisha Abe scored in the second half off an assist by Awadallah.

In the Foothill Excalibur girls’ tournament:

Dana Hills 3, Irvine 0--Amy Kroeger scored two goals and Marci Giosa had one in the quarterfinals.

Los Alamitos 1, El Dorado 0--Karen Kolodziej scored for Los Alamitos, which became the first team to defeat El Dorado (9-1-3) this season.

In the Fountain Valley boys’ tournament:

Fountain Valley 2, Newport Harbor 2--Fountain Valley advanced to the final of the tournament by winning on penalty kicks, 8-7.

The teams were tied at 4-4 after the first five penalty kicks then moved into sudden death. Each team made their first two kicks, then Newport Harbor missed and P.J. Polowski of Fountain Valley made his to move the Barons into today’s 1:30 p.m. final with Mission Viejo.

Allan Buehler and Polowski scored in regulation for Fountain Valley (8-1-3).

Fountain Valley had defeated Capistrano Valley, 4-1, earlier in the quarterfinals.

Mission Viejo defeated Marina, 2-0, in the quarterfinals then got past Edison, 1-0, in the semifinals.

In the Damien boys’ tournament:

Alta Loma 2, Ocean View 1--Chris Luna broke a 1-1 tie with seven minutes left in the game for Alta Loma in the consolation championship. Dan Tomlin scored for Ocean View (10-2-2) in the first half, but Alta Loma scored with seven minutes left in the second half to break a 1-1 tie.
