A 28-year-old man suspected of armed robbery was being held in County Jail Tuesday after being captured following a chase by police.

Henry M. Zimmeth, an unemployed laborer, had been sought since allegedly stealing a vehicle at gunpoint Dec. 20, a spokeswoman for the El Cajon Police Department said.

Since that time, Zimmeth had been spotted several times in and around El Cajon and was being pursued by both the El Cajon police and the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.

On Monday morning, while en route to work, police Officer Barbara Shakowski reported seeing Zimmeth riding on a motorcycle. She followed him but lost him at the corner of Wisconsin and Magnolia avenues, authorities said.

Alerted to Shakowski’s call for help, Officer Chris Pietrzak located Zimmeth inside a house in the 200 block of Wisconsin, where he was hiding under a bed, police said.

Zimmeth was charged with suspicion of possession of stolen property, grand theft of property, resisting an officer, carrying a concealed weapon without a license, carrying a loaded gun and as an ex-convict in possession of a gun, a jail spokesman said.

He is being held on $29,000 bail.
