Loyola Wins Third in a Row, 69-56

The Loyola Marymount women’s basketball team withstood a second-half scare from visiting Colorado State on Wednesday to win its third consecutive game, 69-56.

The Lions improved to 7-5 overall and 7-1 in Gersten Pavilion, while the Rams fell to 5-8. Jamie Jesko led Loyola with 20 points and Lynn Flanagan added 18, while forward Joelle Longobardi set a school record with 18 rebounds.

Loyola scored the first eight points and appeared to be in control, building a 39-22 halftime lead behind Flanagan’s 13 points and 10 from Jesko.

The lead grew to 19 points several times in the second half, the latest at 54-35. But Colorado State went into a full-court press the rest of the game, sparking a 15-4 run to cut the lead to eight. In the final minute the Rams pulled to 63-56, but Loyola made enough free throws down the stretch to hold on.

Loyola plays host to Wyoming at 7:30 Friday.
