Commenting on Film Commentary

I enjoyed Mathews’ article on the probable Oscar nominees and winners. I’d like to suggest the following as an addendum:

1--The nominations will be dominated by films about mental or physical disability or about unlikely yet “sensitive” relationships. These films will feature tour de force performances by major stars and some slick manipulation of our emotions, effectively disguising the fact that they really aren’t any better than the average TV movie.

2--Each of the award-winning films will have been a commercial success. Oscars for box-office failures are as rare as snow in Los Angeles.

3--The nominees will cloak themselves in modesty, failing to disguise the fact that their already bulging egos have tripled in size.

4--Because it doesn’t pander to easy sentiments and solutions, the best film of the year won’t even be nominated.

Bet the bank on the above.
