An Elephantine Crusade: “Saturday Night Live” comic Kevin Nealon and “The Price Is Right” host Bob Barker joined about 120 other animal rights activists in a demonstration Saturday urging people to boycott the Milwaukee County Zoo. The demonstration was a protest against the zoo’s recent transfer of a 40-year-old elephant named Lota to a training farm. The protesters contended the elephant should not have been moved from the zoo that had been its home for years and complained that Lota would be subject to abuse at the Hawthorn Corp. farm, where animals are trained for circuses and other entertainment. Zoo director Charles Wikenhauser argued that the transfer last November was necessitated by Lota’s unruly behavior. The Wisconsin Humane Society said it found no truth to allegations that Lota was abused at the training farm.
