Lajoie Quits Tigers, Discounts Harwell Furor
Bill Lajoie, vice president and general manager of the Detroit Tigers, resigned Monday, saying he wanted to pursue “a more relaxed lifestyle,” including possibly scouting for another ballclub.
“I want to do something a little more relaxing and I want to do it when I want to do it,” said Lajoie, 56. “Seven days a week--winter, summer--I’ve had enough.”
Lajoie said his decision had nothing to do with the ongoing controversy over the firing of longtime Tiger broadcaster Ernie Harwell. Lajoie’s resignation was effective immediately.
